I use this book every semester

After using several other books, I finally found the one I really like! I use this book every semester with my College Reading for Success class. The chapters are applicable to nearly every type of text students will encounter. One of their assignments is to take a strategy from the book and use it in another class and report their success or struggles with it. It really has helped give my class direction.

Call this book the Management Bible

Ken Blanchard went on to become the management guru of the 90s, writing countless books that can be found right here on Amazon. However, this text book is where is all began. I call it a text book because it is. This text has been used and is still used in management schools around the nation. Written with Hersey and Johnson, this book is the definitive foundation text on how to manage organizational behavior as it pertains to managing people. Following are a couple key points:

1) Diagnosis: It is a manager's job to modify their management style to employee needs. Evaluting employee needs and corresponding management styles can be easily done using Situational Leadership tools (found in book).

2) Intervention: Performance can be managed using the fundamental postive reinforcement psychology. Further, by consciously indentifying needs, performance can be improved more rapidly.

3) Evaluation: If behavioral change does not occur, the individual may not be in the right role.

This sounds dry and obvious by today's standards, but it wasn't when the first edition of this book was published (1980s). Further, most modern organiztional and management theory is based on this book. There is still gold to dig from its pages.

Terrific book! Not your regular textbook.

I do not have a lot of time because I am in a masters in education program so I will be short and to the point. This was a required book for a class, but I was quite pleasantly surprised to discover that this book is actually quite well written. Some parts are even amusing. As I said, not your regular textbook! It is also chock full of pithy quotations. Enjoy!

Scleroderma, Devastating Diagnosis

Attie DeVries writes the moving and dramatic story of her son Simon's healing from the incurable disease of scleroderma in the book "A Miracle." At age five Simon was diagnosed as having this incurable disease.

Recurring testing, various treatments, and ongoing therapy became a way of life for this young family. Attie tells of her fears and frustrations of battling the uncertainly of the disease.

A whole new world opened up for Attie and her husband Simen after reading the book "I Believe in Miracles" the story of Kathryn Kuhlman and her ministry of healing. Over the next several months the family began attending "healing services," studied the scriptures, and stepped out in faith as they prayed for Simon's healing.

Simon's story is beautifully written. The reader is drawn into a progression of faith building lessons from parallels of Abraham's life and the De Vries's journey of trust, patience, and faith.

Obeying God's call on their lives, Attie and Simen stepped out in faith, attended Bible School and formed a Television Ministry that airs in the Middle East, Africa, Europe and Russia.

"A Miracle" provides the reader with encouragement and inspiration. De Vries writing is relevant for today with solid Biblical evidence that God's miracles and healing are available for Christians today.
