Rebirthing Our Nation

Alienated Nation by Dr. Brooks Agnew is an urgent must read for every thinking person in the United States. Face it, if you weren't concerned about your rights or the State of the Union, you probably wouldn't be considering this book.
The American Republic has been lost. The glory of Liberty and Freedom are a vague memory in a land where filming public servants at work can now get you thrown in jail and quite likely roughed up on the way. In fact, with the NDAA in place American citizens can now be `disappeared', arrested and held without benefit of so much as a phone call, let alone due process of law.
This book is more than a history lesson, it is Citizenship 101 for all Americans. If I'd had a history teacher as interesting as Dr. Agnew I'd know a lot more history, and I would have a hunger for it. Brooks delivers a nearly gut wrenching call to arms. Not violent arms, but an intellectual call from the ghosts we really owe our freedoms to, people just like ourselves who would no longer stand by while losing rights, rights that were being stolen from them by their governments at the tip of a blade or the barrel of a gun.
Well before the Declaration of Independence was created, in most of our earliest `settlements' and townships, households were expected and required to participate in government in order to live within the boundaries of said township. Years of part-time service to the municipality were required to earn one's way into a good place to live. The sad state of our nation is a testament to just how poorly we've been doing in this area for the last 200 years. The "agency-government" as Brooks refers to it, couldn't have gained so much power without us turning our backs on our responsibilities.
Agnew's ideas may not be for everyone, but we desperately need to start the discussion of how to reclaim our Republic, our US Constitution and Bill of Rights. This includes returning to a much smaller federal government in favor of the State's rights.
The issues raised in this book are directly about where we live and how we're going to live or survive or die. There is a reason that America has been the dream for millions of people over the last 200 plus years...Freedom and inherent Liberty are the natural state of every human being.
Alienated Nation is the invitation to the table ...the banquet we must all attend if we wish to save our liberty, our country and possibly our very lives. It is a starting point to the discussion, and could culminate in the much-needed rebirth of the greatest nation on earth.

Dr. Agnew,

I had the good fortune of listening to you on Coast with George. Sir, you are one incredibly fascinating individual!!! I am writing you to thank you for writing Alienated Nation. I just purchased a copy of it along with the audio version. After listening to your argument as to how to fix this mess, your idea of having the states push back was the first time that I've heard of a reasonable solution to this. I also agree with you that those pushing for a "revolution" are gaining dangerous airplay. This is NOT the solution.

I found myself being labeled a "Prepper" after this movement gathered steam. I started accumulating food, water, gear, protection and plenty of ammunition 2 years ago after 2 situations crossed my path. Initially, while I slept, a group of thugs broke into my car and stole the contents within. Secondly, living in Arizona, during the housing ramp up, a truck broke one of the main gasoline pipes that supplies the greater Phoenix Metro area with gasoline. For about 3 days, every other gas station was out of gas. How I saw people react to this minor hiccup in supply got me to start thinking, "Imagine how these people would act if a real emergency transpired?"

I'm finally to the point where my checklist is complete and I can sleep at night.

What has depressed me over the past decade is the awful state of affairs our country is in and the, (until now) hopeless feeling of uselessness I've had about the solution. I, like you, am a solutions guy and the road this government has taken, especially over the last 10 years has got to be roadblocked.

Your constitutional solution totally makes sense, is reasonable, is doable, and from your information, has already taken hold in ~ 40 states.

Keep up the fight, Dr. Agnew!!! I wish you the very best of luck and success on your expedition and your electric truck company!

A must read for every person who has achieved political adulthood!

Shiff is a master at boiling down what's causing the problems we have today in America. Should be required reading in every school in this country! Of course, if you're of liberal ilk, you might find the book overbearing. You won't catch Schiff expousing any feel-good, or touchy feely crap that only exists in the minds of liberals. It's down to earth and right on target! I call it "reality-speak".

Elizabeth Cooke lives in Dorset in southern England and is the author of twelve novels, including Rutherford Park. War Alters Love Forever!

Elizabeth Cooke has written a noble, admirable follow-up novel to Rutherford Park: A Novel. The stereotypical characters and events of old are all about to be blown to bits!
Harry Cavendish has grown up as a Dad and now is about to serve as a member of the Royal Flying Corps fighting in World War I in 1915. The world’s not a pretty place at all and aristocracy and servants are all expected to “do their part” in the war effort at home and abroad. The dreams, the fantasies and the reality unfold in amazing, step-by-step scenes that grip the reader’s full attention and participation immediately, never flagging throughout the 300+ pages that follow.
Harry’s mother, Octavia, has dramatically changed. She’s suffered a tremendous loss of her great love, lives amid the frozen shambles of a marriage and is trying to find purpose in her life. She’s a suffragette before her time and begins making a difference on the home front by forcing healthy and safe changes in those who work in the family business. William, her husband, must face reality to recover from a broken heart, a truth previously hidden by the “stiff upper lip” so much part of the problem with the upper class in England at that time.
Servants and even the town’s chaplain join the military as well; their descriptions of before and after the “Great War” are brutally surrealistic but oh so real!
Octavia’s lover, John, writes letters to his love every day and is about to make the most pivotal journey of his life, a stunning portion of this powerful novel in so many ways.
The Wild Dark Flowers: A Novel of Rutherford Park is a very well-crafted story involving changes that force several conclusions about war and relationships but do so in a style full of tension and evolving progress. The characters in this novel have depth as we share their brutal and tender reflections about this memorably turbulent time. Love reading about this time period. Fans of Downton will want to read this!

The Wild Dark Flowers is the second novel in the Rutherford Park series. If you've not read Rutherford Park, I would urge you to do so before reading this book. I didn't read it first, and while Elizabeth Cooke does a fantastic job of laying out the story, I felt as if I didn't get a clear picture.

Who will like this book? Fans of Downton Abbey, Upstairs, Downstairs, and the like. Rutherford Park is a huge estate (like Downton) that is run by a small army of servants and staff. And just like Downton Abbey the story focuses not only on the family but the staff as well. So you get a broad picture of how the war had an effect on every class.

Lord and Lady Cavendish are trying to repair their marriage after her affair with the American. William knows that Octavia still has romantic feelings toward her seducer, but he still tries to do everything in his power to win her back. The Cavendish's have many more worries to contend with. They worry over their children, especially their son who is involved in the war. They worry over the household and the staff that has been sent or is going off to war.

This story is full of emotional turmoil that will keep you turning pages until the very end. It would be hard to put in every detail and focus on every story line (there are a few) without giving away the entire plot or making this review thirty pages. The Wild Dark Flowers is a wonderfully written book that will leave you wanting more. This is the series to read while you're waiting for new episodes Downton Abbey.

Great Sequel

I truly enjoyed how the book continued the story of Rutherford Park. It's ending clearly begs for a sequel, which indeed was sampled at the end of The wild dark Flowers. The story vividly detailed the horrors of war intertwined with love and loss, duty and honor. It would have been nice if the reader was provided with the name of the next book in the series. This was a very satisfying read none the less.

Nothing happened after reading this book. Nothing happened after doing the experiments presented when I read the instructions and did them. Then I went to bed. Out of the blue I tried the the "Touching Your No-Head" experiment lying in bed with only the little ambient light in the room. I touched my head and felt only sensations in the center of nothing and this nothing was me... I wanted to laugh, but muffled my laughter to not wake my wife. There it was, or more precisely there it wasn't, what I have been looking for - for so long. I know nothing will be the same and there's no one to consult, it was and is as clear as day. Your mileage may vary, not all paths resonate with everyone. In fact, this is not the first time I came across this set of pointers, but before there was no effect. By "accident" I tried again, and what a difference it's made. Worth investigating, experimenting and even if it does not have an effect, worth coming back to later.

Helpful Guidebook for Girls & Their Parents

In a tech obsessed world this book is a MUST for any young girl trying to get through their tween/teenage years! These years are crucial for anyone and not always a walk in the park - there will always be bumps along the way. Girl World is easy to read and relatable for young readers & perfect for anyone who is looking for someone to have their back. As a parent, I am extremely thankful for this book because it has helped me understand what my daughter may be going through and how I can be there for her along the way.

I’m so happy there is a book out there that young girls can have in their back pocket! I didn’t have this when I was younger & I think it is a helpful and necessary guidebook. It’s incredibly inspirational and easy to relate to. I bought this for my younger sister who is going into the sixth grade - she loves it!

~new match ups and tournaments All in all the stuff that this expansion adds is awesome without gettting to complex

Ok so first here's all the new stuff the game comes with;

~3 new teams from a division called the Putrid Players.
~The teams are Nurgle, Chaos Dwarves and Goblins!
~ An extra Score Board (to add a 5th Player)
~Stadiums (which add rules to each match)
~penalty cheating tokens and pnealty cards
~new ability called fouling
~ and a Referee
~ a few more team upgrades for the original teams.
~new match ups and tournaments

All in all the stuff that this expansion adds is awesome without gettting too complex.
I think this expansion is worth it just for the new teams, (love the goblins) and the extra player.
The new skill; fouling, lets you foul your opponents; which means you can look at a card in your opponent's hand and choose whether or not the opponent will discard it.

Now you also run the risk of getting penalties, which are negative effects after the matchups have been resolved.

The stadiums add restrictions to the matchups now. Here's a taste of the type of restrictions you'll encounter; no cheating or no one above 2 star power in that particular matchup. You can choose to break these rules at the cost of a penalty card, which i think gives you interesting choices.

The Ref. goes around handing out cheating tokens so it adds a little randomness to the game or you can use it to your advantage and or push your luck a little.
You can easily choose which parts of the expansion you want to add to the game.

The goblins are by far my favorite. There is a little bias because I love goblins. They're a little silly and have pogo sticks, chainsaws, and little Davinci style helicopters! THey're a little hard to play with but they dont feel unbalanced

If you already have the other expansion it might be too much for some people to add all the components. I personally don't think it's too much to track.
This game is awesome and the expansions don't disappoint!

About the Author

Mark A. Richards, Ph.D., is Principal Research Engineer and Adjunct Professor, School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), Georgia Institute of Technology. He is engaged in academic and continuing education teaching and course development in the fields of digital signal processing and radar signal processing. Prior to joining ECE, Dr. Richards was a Principal Research Engineer and Chief of the Radar Systems Division and Head of the Signal Processing Branch in the Sensors and Electromagnetic Applications Laboratory of the Georgia Tech Research Institute.

Exemplary Radar Textbook

This book is intended to introduce the reader to the fundamentals of Radar signal processing. This book remains my favorite for four reasons:
1) It covers nearly all aspects of Radar signal processing
2) It is not as superficial as similar textbooks in Radar, but
3) It is not highly mathematical or too specialized
4) The book is application oriented and very useful for graduate students, researchers and practitioners.

A Devil of an Idea ;-)

A great idea from Zoran Zivkovic to get the students of a writer's masterclass held by the editor at the 2004 Brisbane Writers Festival to write a short story in one hour about a meeting between a writer and the devil, set in Brisbane.
He then published all those stories and some others and released them in this Anthology.
I found it can get a bit much if you try reading too many stories in one sitting, as they are all naturally variations on the same theme.
Some are good, some could have been good (with a little help) and some are best forgotten.
Writer's should love reading through this book and trying to ignore that little critical and bitchy voice whispering through their heads telling how much better of a story they could have written.

Easy to Use

I use this book as one of several rock and mineral field guides in a lab exercise in which college students enrolled in a physical geography class have to identify 15 different minerals. The lab groups that use this guide are always the first to complete the lab successfully. Unlike the Peterson's Guide and some others, this guidebook doesn't require you to carry a chemistry lab in your back pocket to successfully identify common minerals. Instead it is organized around the most basic and easily done field test techniques: streak color and hardness. Would be nice if it had a rock section in it as well.

Minerals: Identifying, classifying and collecting them

This field guide to mineral deposits is one of the best I have used. It is easy to use and it provides clear and easy identification of minerals. With over 500 color photos, the book is arranged by color streak and includes the degree of hardness, density, streak description, color, chemical formula, cleavage, crystal form, tenacity and crystal formation. Other features include a list of similar minerals and where the mineral occurs, i.e. in pegmatites. The author also gives advice on where to find minerals and the kind of equipment needed to retrieve them. Also useful is the information on how to organize a collection. The paperback format lends itself to tossing the book into a backpack for easy reference when mineral "hunting" in the field. This is a "must have" for any adventurer's personal library.

About the Author
Wareen D. Seider is Professor of Chemical Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania. He received a B.S. degree from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Michigan. Seider has contributed to the fields of process analysis, simulation, design, and control. He co-authored FLOWTRAN. Simulation –An Introduction in 1974 and has coauthored the design course at Penn for over 20 years involving projects provided by many practicing engineers in the Philadelphia area. He has authored or coauthored over 80 journal articles and authored or edited six books.

J.D. Seader is Professor of Chemical Engineering at the University of Utah. He received B.S. and M.S. degrees from the University of California at Berkeley and a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin. From 1952 to 1959, he designed processes for Chevron Research and directed the development of one of the first computer-aided process design programs. From 1959 to 1965, he conducted rocket engine research for Rocketdyne on all of the engines that took astronauts to the moon. Before joining the faculty at the University of Utah in 1966, Saeder was a professor at the University of Idaho. He is the author or coauthor of 109 technical articles, seven books, and four patents.

Daniel R. Lewin is Professor of Chemical Engineering and the director of the Process Systems Engineering (PSE) research group at the Technion, the Israel Institute of Technology. He received his B.Sc. from the University of Edinburgh and his D.Sc. from the Technion. His research focuses on the interaction of Process design and process control and operations, with emphasis on model-based methods. He has authored and coauthored over 90 Technical publications in the area of process systems engineering, as well as the first edition of this textbook, and the multimedia CD that accompanies it.

Outdated a bit, but a well-written book for design.

While a little out of date, it's a book essential to a senior design class, especially for chemical engineers. Explains basic concepts of project cost estimation, process safety, equipment sizing, utility costs, and general design principles for a plant. This book is 10+ years old, but worked fine for my class this past year. Plenty of examples worked out, are shown. Specific tables relating to costs of equipment/materials, may differ from present value.

I was a student of Dr. Seider at the University of Pennsylvania in the 1970's. Reviewing the table of contents for this book, I recognize a lot of the material from courses I took with Dr. Seider at Penn. We studied material in Dr. Seider's class that was later published.

Dr. Seider is a very knowledgeable professor of chemical engineering.

He combined the academic aspects with the industrial field experience, and showed his students how to use the numerical methods to solve chemical engineeing problems.

The authors have used some of the new technologies and software packages to help undergraduate students master this material quicker than we could with the computation tools available in 1974. Sample code is available in the textbook that allows a student to concentrate on the process aspects of plant design, and not spend time writing and debugging computer code.

My own career took me into areas outside of chemical process design.

But the systematic, analytical methods taught by Dr. Seider still help me in resolving power plant performance problems.
