The author dares the average Christian to instead master the noise, seek clarity, follow Jesus, and become a static Jedi. With a no-nonsense approach, highly relevant cultural references, and personal anecdotes and illustrations, the book advocates morning devotion, solitary retreat, Scripture memorization, fasting, and ongoing discipleship to help readers master the static like Jesus did. The injunctions are practical but challenging, motivational and mystical, and at times go beyond stimulating to being onerous. Timm asks readers to do the natural as Jesus does the super, but much of the book is focused on the actions of the devotee, not the Deity. Okay for a starter book for youth

For a youth book, this has potential. It is a challenge to do something deeper with God and goes beyond the usual youth "preachiness" I fear in most books that dumb it down for teens. Timm does slip into youth preacher mode a bit more than I like, but his depth is also good. He is not afraid to challenge youth to get the noise out of their lives.
For anyone else, I recommend other books that can simply help with picking up key spiritual disciplines. Timm repeats himself far too much and divides subjects up into two chapters to add unneeded length.
For youth pastors, challenge your youth with some great help. This is a good starter. Please treat it just that way.

A Spicy Tuna Roll for Your Spirit

Reading Static Jedi for the first time is like eating a spicy tuna roll at your local sushi joint for the first time. By their titles you have no idea what your in for. However, curiosity gets the best of you. What starts as an apprehensive bite explodes into an full on experience for the senses. It's seemingly simple yet profoundly satisfying! With each morsel you digest you find yourself inextricably hungry for more. Then suddenly he drops a wasabi infused revelation which leaves you laughing, crying and challenged to take another bite. Best of all...when you finish it leaves you wanting more!

I have recommended this book to literally everyone I've spoken to since I read it. It's a must read.

Eric Samuel Timm is as easy to read and as likable as Donald Miller and as thoughtful as the great authors many of us love and look up to. The pages of this book are riddled with bits humor that make it fun to read and such profound Truths that makes you keep turning the pages. He speaks from an honest place of hard earned wisdom and teaches the reader how to get there, too, by applying 5 keys to a stronger walk and faith. The way he approaches these keys is so simple yet so profound. Everything he writes of is backed by Scripture after Scripture. It challenges you and inspires you to action. It will be a book that will be around for a long time. Truths like this don't fade with fads. I look forward to reading more from this author.
I will definitely use this book for my small group Bible study as well as read it again personally. It has already sparked countless conversations among my circle.
It's a must read for teens and adults alike from those that are new to Faith and those who have been around since organs were the cool thing in church.
So when you order this book, go ahead an extra for a friend. You'll be glad you did and so will they.
